Unique Background-STEPS TO BREAK IN IB

Alright, I know there are 100s of entries like these, but here me out. I come from a unique, cultural background. I attend a semi-target. major BB don't recruit here, but there are a few alumni out there, so maybe it's a non target.

Basically I messed up freshman year in a foreign class and my Cumulative GPA was 2.9. No big deal right? who cares about non business classes?

Major related GPA (business courses) is around 3.6 at the moment. Working really hard to bring both of those up right now during my SOPH year Finance major.

Questions: -On resumes should I put cum. gpa or by major? -Internships: when should I apply/start looking? What are opportunities for soph's: boutiques? PWM? -Network: Cold calling and cold e-mailing? Start ASAP for internships?

I heard it's all about networking and telling your story in an interview (if you get one)

How can i use my diversified story (which i will not disclose here) along with improving my grades help me land a boutique gig this summer and at least a BB gig at least the summer after my junior year at a BB.

**also, my father has a friend who has a couple sons at Goldman. He claims they can at least help me (idk how). What do you guys think? any shot they can help me land an interview at the least? (they're MD their at this point, been there for several years).

Sorry this topic has been beaten to death, just thought i could make it personal

Your writing / grammar is terrible. That's your first and most obvious barrier. The second is your assumption that a 2.9 is "no big deal right"? If you had taken a PhD level class in rocket propulsion, maybe you'd have an excuse. You failed a fucking hippy language arts class. And this at a non-target. They might take 5 seconds to laugh at you before tossing your resume in the trash.

From the perspective of argumentative construction, your post is poorly erected.

The ONE unique (you claim) aspect of your candidacy is also the one area you refuse to elaborate on. Without it, your post is dime-a-dozen and has already been answered 50+ times on this site, just use the search function.

Think. If I were to apply to a job and tell my interviewer I was "uniquely qualified," then proceed to list several inadequate qualifications while omitting my only "unique" qualification, would I be hired?

Side-note: Your "unique, cultural background" is likely not as unique as you might imagine, finance has a massive applicant pool for every job, and the senior guys that interview have been around for several cycles. So, unless you're one of the founding members of EROS, a deposed prince of some sort, or an ex-KGB test-tube baby or something, someone with a similar background has probably been through the process before you.

Richie, you said "erected" tee hee. Oh, I...uh...didn't read the rest of your post.

P.S. OP your story/background is not fucking unique and your grammar is god awful. You should probably take that language class again.

never failed a class, just gotta C in Spanish both semesters freshman year. Currently have 4 As and 1 B my Sophomore Fall semester.

2nd- i don't really care about my grammar at midnight while i'm engaging in an online forum...and sorry, I was in a rush. i'll construct a post with more order to it next time

Nouveau- good point man. Unfortunately I guess my story can't be all that interesting.

give me a good reason why i should type with proper grammar on a fucking internet forum? I realize it's respectful, but seriously it's not the end of the world. Don't you have something better to worry about than to go pick out my writing on the damn INTERNET?

And it was Spanish. Did excellent in English actually.

Don't you have something better to worry about than an internship in finance? There's a cardboard box and pizza waiting for you in Zuccotti Park.

Shut the fuck up kid.

No as a matter of fact. All I was looking for was some advice, tips, re-direction...not criticizing grammar on the internet, where we're all faceless behind a screen. Take it easy.
