US doomed?

I would expect the media to be all over this new treaty, but it is not.

Is this the end of the US world supremacy as we know it?

I don't believe that China will take over however I think that Russia will make a comeback as a world power pretty soon.

IlliniProgrammerLarry Bell is not exactly a moderate nor known for mincing words:

Here's what the supporters have to say. They think it enhances US sovereignty:

Not sure what I think. Obviously the revenue sharing aspects are annoying.

man, this Larry Bell has serious issues!

Is this an age thing? Will we all become this bitter at that age?

But those are all political reasons. The US should just postpone any "global policy" initiatives for the moment and focus on "national policy". The US economy is in desperate need for the cash and this is not the adequate time to start giving away billions or even trillions of dollars.

Apparently, a number of WSO members become bitter in college by some posts! (not you)

Political parties always have short memories when they are not in power. Unlike the dems from 2002-2006, the Republicans control one house of congress and can completely veto this if they want to. Oh well, at least they're not accusing Obama of trying to end the bill of rights (yet).

Of course no 1s heard of this yet... because the lame stream media will not touch it. They dont like to broach subjects that tend to reveal how much of a scummy radical President B.O. really is. Hes a redistributionist whore, who would love to be on his knees and recieve a UN money shot to the face.

This is only part of a series of new laws the UN hopes to put in place. Another gives the right to children to sue their parents in international court if they feel they're misstreated. lol, smh.

Exactly! If Obama gets re-elected, we're all screwed. Obama would rather have redistribution of wealth than growth and creation of new wealth.

Oh well. In 2004, the dems got carried away and lost their message, but they ultimately turned out to be right on a bunch of things and won in 2006.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes. We see a president at the end of his first term getting accused of being everything from a communist dictator to a Kenyan-born Muslim. We don't really see a political platform besides "not obama". We see an opposition candidate that is seen by the opposition's base as a weak moderate.

The Republicans may ultimately prove right like the dems did in 2006, but my hunch is that if we have a decent economy by November, Obama gets reelected.

What should the Republican strategy be?

1.) Talk about streamlining regulation. 2.) Talk about enhancing US sovereignty. 3.) Celebrate America for what it is, what it's been, and what it still can be. 4.) Avoid talking about socialists, birth certificates, and for God sakes, stop talking about Obama's regulations of Wall Street.

Accept the treaty but with the concession that no money will go to an international organization and all drilling technology is kept with the company that develops it.

There is no reason why oil companies should have to support this international organization nor is there a reason why oil companies should have to hand over any drilling technology if they do not want too.

The US government should determine where oil companies can/cannot drill NOT an international agency.

If an area is deemed inappropriate for drilling, companies should be allowed to appeal in a US Federal Court.
