Valuation to IB?

In the last semester of my junior year and I graduate May 2024, Done over 8 IB interviews but no luck so far for a Summer Internship 2023. I do have an offer from Stout for Business Valuation Internship and was wondering what are the exit ops for Valuation? I am hoping to work in IB in the near future.

It's certainly a relevant skillset and a step in the right direction.

If you're truly committed to IB and have a good reason for wanting it, there is no reason that you wouldn't be able to transition from valuation to IBD eventually. It just might not be a direct or linear path.

Focus on maintaining any existing conversation with people you know/have met in banking and focus on crushing your valuation job and eventually something will open up.

Valuation to IBD is doable. In fact, because you're interning and not FT yet, you're in an even better spot imo. Put your best foot forward at Stout and get your valuation experience over the summer, but simultaneously network and prep for full time IB recruiting with a target start date in 2024. Also, Stout is really open to employees exploring the other business lines (especially at the intern level). If you have an interest in Stout IB then express that interest during your internship and look for opportunities internally. You can PM if you want. Used to work in the Val Group at Stout.

Hey thanks for reaching out and letting me know about this. I feel awful because they asked me what my long-term career was and I said If I like Valuation I will stay, but really in my head I plan on using the internship as a pivot to landing an IB internship. I did not know that Stout is open to allowing employees to explore other business lines. How do I PM you? Would love to learn from you and receive some advice.
