Video or In-Person Interview Option
I have the option for a video interview (Skype) or in-person interview with a small firm this week. I understand that it is obviously better to meet the team in person, however I am a 6-hour drive from their location and they are not offering to pay for my transportation.
Do you guys think that taking the video interview will come across as lazy and uninterested or will they understand and evaluate me the same way as in person?
Any feedback helps. Thanks guys.
I can’t see it hurting you as they didn’t offer to fly you in. That being said paying $200 out of your own pocket to interview in person would show them your dedication and help you seal the deal. Depends on your risk tolerance. Again, likely no downside if you don’t. Best of luck
I would do in person, but if finances are an issue then your call. Depends how badly you need this.
If you can swing it financially, the in-person is the better option IMO. I've always made a better connection/ rapport in person, as most people do.
Interviews are two way streets. You'll get a better feel for them if you do it in person. That's worth the drive and expense.
