i mean they won't actually trash your resume (no reason for them to actually delete it), but it's pretty much a dead end unless you continuously follow up/had a good rapport.

I believe on file means in the trash in that context. If they aren't even speaking to you on the phone and are just responding that, it's not a good sign.

Try re-shaping how you are cold emailing. You want to speak to the people and get a connection/relationship built -- once you've accomplished that you won't even have to ask (well maybe you have to subtly hint) you want a position, and then they'll take it upon themselves to do what they can.

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

Yeah man, I've gotten that email multiple times from the same firm. No way they are keeping tabs on your resume (or mine), just imagine how large the file for all of those that they are supposedly "Keeping".

"History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme."

Just spoke with a friend of mine who works for a non profit. They opened a position for some shitty job, super low salary (around 20k/year), far from downtown, and its only a one year contract.

Within two days, they received over 300 resumes. Background of people who applied varied from PhDs to no schooling at all.

The Job market is a mess.

Hyperbole alert.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

Thanks for the honesty. This was my first ever round of cold contacting, so I assumed a flat out rejection would be in the form of a no-reply, and having some type of reply gave me the wrong impression. I'm not a junior or senior so it's not the end of the world. Next time around I'll tweak my approach and hope for better results.
