West Palm Beach

Just found out our bank is opening an office and opening it up to people that want to move down. Seems like most of the finance scene down there is WM, HF and smaller PE firms with not much banking yet. Know PWP, and Moelis have offices - not sure about others.

Any other firms considering a similar move? What’s the scene like? Seems like the SoFL migration is continuing. Pretty interested as I’m kinda over NYC.

You'll need a car. I think unless you live near CityPlace you might get a bit bored. West Palm definitely has some nice walkable parts, but it isn't that big.

If you're looking for a slower style of living though versus being able to do everything and anything in NYC, then I think you'll like it. Drive to play golf, go to the beach on weekends, still have plenty of nice restaurants. Close enough Miami to spend time down there when you want to. The Bright Line is convenient to take. The Boat Show and SunFest are fun. Go running on Lake Trail.

Don't get me wrong, West Palm is incredibly nice, but unless you live near the downtown parts, you're most likely need to drive everywhere. But oh! No income taxes!

WPB is an amazing place to be if you’re 45+ and already rich. Hence why all the shops have a satellite office down there to placate the 60 year old rainmakers that live at their vacation homes.

WPB is not great if you are young and still working. Pretty quiet, mostly older people, and everything is so expensive it will negate your income tax “savings”.

This was one of my concerns, been doing some research and are you sure this is still true? The development is pretty insane… new pastis, Del Mar, loco taqueria (Boston staple), Mary Lou’s (hamptons spot), ketchy shuby (another hamptons / nyc spot)… lots of other stuff opening with all this development. I’ve seen that take before but just wondering if it’s becoming dated given the more recent development in the past 12-24 months. I can’t imagine those spots (particularly Mary Lou’s and Ketchy) are targeting the 45+ audience

Tbf that’s also not a complete turnoff for me… early 30s, not really looking to be in the party spot anymore - but if I want it, Miami is an hour on the brightline

I love Miami and don't see myself in NYC forever, but West Palm might be too suburban for me. For some that might be a positive so that's purely just my opinion. Realize though that it's actually pretty far between West Palm and Miami, almost 2 hours in traffic. For some maybe that's a positive. I'd say fly down there for a few days and check it out for yourself. Different vibe than Miami.
