Based on the WSO Dataset, choosing between WF IB in Charlotte and JPM MMBSI in Chicago largely depends on your career preferences and lifestyle choices. Here are some considerations:

  1. Location Preference: You mentioned a preference for Chicago over Charlotte. Chicago is a major financial hub with a vibrant city life, which might provide broader networking opportunities and a more dynamic lifestyle.

  2. Division and Role: WF IB (Wells Fargo Investment Banking) likely offers a more traditional investment banking role, which could involve mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, etc. On the other hand, JPM MMBSI (J.P. Morgan Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries) focuses on providing services to mid-sized companies, which can offer a unique set of experiences and learning opportunities in commercial banking.

  3. Long-Term Career Goals: Although you're unsure about your future goals, consider where each role might lead. Investment banking at WF might offer a path into high finance areas such as private equity or hedge funds. Meanwhile, a role in MMBSI at JPM could lead to opportunities within commercial banking, or even transition into other areas at J.P. Morgan.

  4. Company Prestige and Opportunities: J.P. Morgan is highly regarded globally and might offer a prestigious brand name on your resume. However, Wells Fargo also holds strong recognition in the finance industry, especially in the U.S.

Given your preference for Chicago and if you are open to exploring roles beyond traditional investment banking, the JPM MMBSI position could be a great fit. However, if your career aspirations lean more towards high finance and investment banking, you might want to consider the role at WF despite the location. Always consider where you see yourself thriving not just professionally, but also personally.

Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries - it’s JP’s middle market division but it falls under the commercial banking arm

Is this for full time? Mind sharing when you interviewed and when you got the offer?

Where did you go to after mmbsi? Do people leave for private credit funds?

Wells CLT may be better, it’s easier to internally transfer at wells to a better office. I knew ppl who did CLT to NY and CLT to SF after SA

Bro go to CLT lol. I’m from CLT and some of you act like there’s nothing there 😂. I’ve talked to plenty of NYers that love it here. Plus you’re making street level pay with a LCOL like cmon now. Come down and enjoy some southern hospitality.

No offence but having worked in CLT for some time, if OP has any experience of living a in a big city, CLT is a huge culture shock. There's literally nothing there relatively speaking...
