what about qatalyst
hey guys i'm a sophomore.
there seems to be very little on the internet about recruiting for qatalyst so i thought i would make this thread for ppl to share their experiences/what candidates q typically goes for/opinions on the firm/etc.
any insight is very appreciated!
so far i know they're a top firm for tech banking, and have a pretty intense recruitment process, but would like to learn more ab what they look for + office culture + how to prepare specifically for their interviews
Hey there, sophomore! You're right, Qatalyst is a bit of a maverick in the industry. They're known for being a top-notch shop, especially if you're interested in tech M&A. They run a lean operation and consistently win high-profile M&A mandates. As a result, their analysts get a fantastic experience, and their VC exits are particularly impressive.
However, be prepared for a challenging interview process. It's known to be long, technical, and difficult. You'll need to know the tech industry inside and out to secure an offer.
As for the culture, it's a bit of a mystery, but given their reputation for excellence, I'd expect it to be demanding but rewarding.
Remember, every firm has its unique quirks and culture, so it's essential to do your research and see if it aligns with your career goals and personal values. Good luck!

Great firm and runs the tech sell-sides along with GS TMT and MS Tech assuming you are good being on the west coast. Interview will be incredibly technical and heavy on why you want to work in tech so make sure you know verticals and sub-verticals of interest. Other than that, pays super well and exit lean more corp dev or career banker at Q based on selection bias, but plenty of tech PE doors would be open if that is the route you want
No sponsor opportunity even with opt right?
No
have heard 13 rounds of interviews and an online test - please confirm and any insight appreciated
Actually, it’s 53 rounds of interviews and they make you run through an American ninja warrior course while doing mental math.
Source: my girlfriend’s dog works there
stop spreading misinformation, its only 25 rounds.
Source: my girlfriend's boyfriend is an MD there.
also heard 13, someone from my school is going there
From what I’ve heard, it’ll be very technical and they’ll push you on every answer to see how knowledgeable you are on tech. A lot of the questions are outside the guide, and being tech obsessed seems like a prerequisite to landing a role at Qatalyst. Someone I know had their first round for 2024 in Feb, just for info on timeline
About ~10 rounds of interviews for ~5 summer spots. They compete against GS’s SF TMT team and MS’s Menlo Park Tech team. I believe they also only do sell-side M&A. Super strong team if you’re interested in tech
do u know where to find their interview q's past round 2 ?
overlevered (dot) com has some of them to practice with. I found it helpful
london office? ft or sa?
Highly technical interviews. But a top shop, very well respected
