What are my odds breaking into IB?
Hi all,
I'm a second year student studying at a Go8 university in Australia. My WAM is around 75 and I've been quite late to the IB party. Only recently have I been figuring out what IB is, how people typically break in and information about the industry. I have no internships for the summer and am going into my final year next year with barely any ECs (only having completed the WSO modelling course and some non-finance related activities) as well as no relevant work experience.
I was thinking to maybe extend my degree to four years and really focus on upping my grades and participation in clubs, case competitions etc. Or is this a waste of time and instead do something else? What are my realistic odds of breaking into the industry given that I really want to try.
Thanks

In summary, while your current situation presents challenges, extending your degree and focusing on improving your grades, gaining relevant experience, and networking can enhance your chances of breaking into investment banking.

Extend your degree and try to get some relevant experience before you apply for summers next year.
^ check target 1 year MSF programs
This is not the case in australia. I don’t think we even have MSF degrees here - we do have a masters in applied finance at macquarie, but that’s sort of it.
Broadly speaking, IBs don’t hire from masters programs in Australia. The move is (and always has been) to extend your degree by a year.
Apologize for my ignorance
But keep in mind plenty of highly regarded online masters programs in the U.S. accept plenty of international students
Northeastern, Georgetown, Penn just to name a few
