What does the ib>corp dev path look like

I left IB after 6 months for a corp dev analyst role because it is fully remote and I have some family health issues I want to be around for.

the pay is 115k + 25% bonus. Thought to myself that this was almost as much as I’d make at a mm ib, so thought it wouldnt be a bad switch.

how feasible is it to continue recruiting for other corp dev roles after this one? Lets say after 2 years here, I want to join a new platform. Will I be able to compete well against people coming out of banking for corp dev associate roles?

Or should I try to find a way to go back to banking once my family situation changes if my end goal is head of m&a at a mid sized company?

Also what is the feasible comp progression if i dont go back to banking? I like my new WLB but dont want to be relatively poor by the time im 30

Yes. 100%. You can absolutely be competitive. For example, I just received an F500 corp dev offer and I currently work in corp dev. I am not taking this offer because I don’t like the opportunity but went through the process because reps but that’s besides the point.

Corp dev at most places that have “real” corp dev roles are far more like a “normal” corporate role than PE. Not being on the standard path won’t be a “no thanks. We have enough of the right people so go fuck off” in the same way PE is. Also, already being in corp dev mostly checks that box anyways so long as you have some type of meaningful experience / competence
