What is an excel back-up?
Clueless monkey here. Can anyone explain to me what this finance lingo means? Is it just an excel template?

An excel file where you put all your data mining stuff. It would be preferred if you also comment (shift+f2) what is the source for these data (which file, what page).
Lets say you have a powerpoint with lots of graphs and charts in it- all the data for those are saved on a separate Excel so it's easy to go in and copy and paste the data into PPT charts or copy and paste the chart you make in Excel to the PPT so it auto updates (people generally have preferences when it comes to this)
I see, so assumptions + data inputs?
Yep!
You're a first year and don't know what a backup is? What have you been doing for the last 10 months? Only pitches?
First off....that's possible. Plenty of analysts don't see a live deal in 10 months if you are in a bad group. Secondly, different banks use different terms. Maybe his bank calls it "supporting excel file" or something. Excel back-up could easily be misconstrued as some IT-level back-up or something...
