What is AVP at Barclays?
I’ve seen “AVP” on some people’s LinkedIn profiles at Barclays. What does this mean? Assistant VP? These were all relatively younger people who should be analysts or junior associates.

Interesting.
AVP = Associate
interned there last summer and going back full time
haven't seen a single person use the AVP title. everyone said/used associate
AVP = Associate
It's like in some Big 4 / Consulting firms where you have Analyst - Assistant Manager - Manager.
Does that give Associates a slight bump for exit opps or if they apply for business school since they can say they've been promoted to Assistant Vice President in 2-3 years. Even if it's the same number of years, it may have a subconscious effect because it sounds better?
I doubt it unless maybe you're going far outside of the finance world and they don't know any better.
I've seen this only in their credit risk group. Their banking group follows a normal structure.
I would argue it's bad because employers will see you as too high up to recruit for an associate role. Sadly, seniority in our industry pigeonholes you.
As mentioned above, AVP = Associate. I've seen people who come from Barclays from other firms use AVP whereas Grads (ie came to Barclays straight out of MBA) use Associate.
AVP = assoc
mostly european banks that follow this convention
just more creative title inflation in the finance world
Associate. Citi uses AVP too
Depends on the bank, but back at PaineWebber that stood for Assistant Vice President, which always seem to me like a strange title you are stuck with for 2-3 years.
