What is it with banks and ghosting candidates?

Title says it all. What is it with these banks and giving you a timeframe of when you will hear back from an interview and then just straight up ignoring you after reaching out multiple times. I understand that I am not entitled to anything, and this is just the nature of recruiting, but it feels pretty shitty to meet most of the team just to get fucking ghosted like I don’t exist. I’m not saying it is all banks or PE firms, but it’s happened to me 3 times now after going through multiple rounds of interviews. It seems cowardly, like they are afraid of rejecting people, which I would honestly much rather. Throw shit at me all you want, and I get this is 100% my fault for not getting the job, but god damn this culture sucks ass.

there are 2 things

1) by not directly rejecting you, the bank keeps their options open to contact you later and offer you a job if/when their 1st choice candidate declines their offer

2) directly rejecting you could expose the firm to a lawsuit if you were to sue them for some kind of employment discrimination...and so never rejecting you allows the firm to say "we never rejected this person, we are still considering them".  Its a legal liability thing....which drives many behaviors of large banks.
