What Is The Ideal Way to React to A Bonus (Good/Bad)?

Hello, looking for some advice on how to react to bonuses. The way it works at my firm is that you get to put in a self review and then later on you get a meeting with your manager and they pretty much break it to you what your rating is and what your bonus is as well as some feedback they've gathered about your strengths and weaknesses from people you've worked with. I'm pretty sure at that point the bonus is non-negotiable but wanted to ask what would be the best reaction that would increase chances of a good bonus the next year.

For instance, if the bonus is underwhelming... what should you say or do?

If the bonus is great and kinda more or less in line with what you expected... what should you say or do?

Would love to hear any advice/ real stories!

Thanks.
