What is the total cost of getting an apartment in NYC?
I'm looking for a 2 bedroom to be specific. My signing bonus is $10k and I'm wondering if it will all be dedicated towards housing. Thanks.

For a rental, it will depend but in general:
1) security deposit: usually 1 month of rent
2) first month up front (when signing)
3) broker fee: this is negotiable and you can look for “no fee” apartments. So anywhere from 15% of 1yr rent to 0. I would strongly suggest looking for no fee apartments, especially now as there are many deals (1-2 months free)
4) moving costs: about $500 or so for a mover
So it all depends on how expensive your place is. On the high end if you find a $5k apartment (unsure your budget, not sure if you are a first year) you could be looking at $5k deposit, $9k fee, but more likely you get a no fee place and probably cheaper if a first year.
