What made CS sponsors soo good?

I've always heard CS FSG was up there with GS TMT and MS M&A. What made their sponsors team soo good and prestigious? What did the CS group do so well that other sponsors groups weren't doing?

Would love to learn more about what made their sponsors platform be perceived better than the rest

Adding on to the DLJ + FB legacy point made earlier. CS FSG owned the model rather than shipping it off to Lev Fin like most other sponsors groups do. So at the analyst level you’re getting lots of LBO reps. Due to the groups reputation and inherent function of being a sponsors group, no pitching was needed as PE firms came to the group with deals already in mind. The WLB and culture were also both very good, especially for banking standards. Exits were top notch.

Used to be grouped together with their LevFin team. Back in the days, they were underwritting everything, a way for sponsors to get cheap debt, hence their FSG team were working on a lot of sponsor work which led to good exits

idk how far back youre talking about but FSG is a separate group from lev fin. different client coverage

Client coverage is exactly the same. You must have very limited knowledge in finance. Why do you think CS sponsors is good, because their LevFin underwrite every single thing in the market
