IMO it was the case maybe 20 years ago when banking was still where top minds where going but the hours, culture of abusive seniors, heavy DEI/nepo in classes and the neutering of actual risk taking groups have eroded the experience

Because the Goldman “partnership” is still the best wealth creator in the world for ordinary employees. It’s virtually impossible to be a “partner” at GS and not end up with a nine figure net worth (and the economics keep getting better as the junior and mid levels get underpaid). No other corporate job guarantees that. Now it’s a ton of work to get there and you have to live and breathe GS and eat a lot of shit, and many don’t, but for those that can drink the corporate kool aid (full disclosure, I lasted one year there) it’s a reasonably pleasant place to be.
