What stocks are hot now?
What stocks have potential or are booming? I want to invest, but I want to invest in the best option, not just in a company I like or admire.

CITIGROUP
MGM LVS CIT ETFC C
how much upside potential does CIT really have even if it avoids a ch 11 bankruptcy? with all the dilution and restructuring the upside potential seems pretty limited for common shares, in addition to all the talk of their business model being broken
C seems like a good bet for the long run
Any more input? Thanks for the input so far.

Well if you're not looking for value stocks - AMNP, a gold company is looking good. It's a risky penny stock though.
It seems as though your testing the efficiency of the markets based on WSO. Unfortunately, investing is not this easy, which is why few do very well at it. At your age, and pretty much most ages for that matter, the best you can do is efficiently allocate assets classes, beyond that in terms of investing in specific companies, there are entire occupating that are devoted to being ahead of everyone else and making money, so it is VERY unlikely that anyone on hear will have something worthwhile to say for your stock picks over lets say a fund manager who follows this company and knows a helluva lot more about finance and the industry than you.
The majority of fund managers are jokes, they barely outperform the market on an average basis and many will actually finish below the market average when you factor in their costs. I will say hedging your bets is the best thing you can do so make sure your diversify and allocate appropriate to your risk tolerance.
Also, focus on the fundamentals of the market/stock/industry, whatever it is. I'm not a big fan of throwing all your money into a stock because you heard it was going to be huge. Good luck.

I'm making it up as I go along.

mergerarb15 is absolutely correct. I just lost my shirt on CIT. You win some you lose some...
As far as ETF's and index funds would you guys recommend jumping into them right now as a first time investor? Or should I wait around for the "correction" before I put my money in for the first time.
Basically looking to split up my investment between 3 index funds, one tracking the S&P, one tracking small caps, and one tracking international (50%, 25%, 25%)
