What the fuck do I do?

It's late April and I've been recruiting for this junior summer for over a year, across finance, buy-side, consulting, tech everything. I've made multiple final rounds at big firms in each of these and no luck.

Now I'm trying to rely on cold emailing fellow alumni (HYP) directors at small firms to hop on call and get something informal. Even now it still seems like little luck. It also seems that everything in NYC goes out to nepo kids. I've been told this explicitly more than once.

I'm genuinely losing hope and have no clue what to do. I feel like applying to postings is useless as all previous interviews have taken over a month and I'm not trying to get a rejection in Mid May. But these calls also aren't looking too promising either. I might cold email small startups but even then I'm scared and don't know how to go about it. I've sent over 100 emails this past week. I'm tired of time wasters that hop on call when they never planned on hiring me.

I feel absolutely hopeless and directionless and in dire need of help. What the fuck do I do?

Prospect, that is a great attitude that will get you looks at many banks and many processes!

🤣🤣🤣

You’re at HYP it will work out. Like somebody else said decide what you want to do and dial in. IB might be tough but you have plenty of time to get a job

Jamie Dimon is one of my close personal friends

I was in a similar position at one point, interviewed everywhere I could get a meeting--consulting, PE, VC, banking, and private credit. Eventually got a single offer and was glad to take it, and had the opportunity to pivot after gaining that initial experience. My point is, I had to fully prep for several very different interviews, but was absolutely worth it. I would also look into tech / startup opportunities, as they likely have more flexible hiring mandates.

I got a job in S&T at a bulge bracket from a non-target and as a non-diversity hire. Believe me, something else is going wrong, could be shitty resume, wrong personality, whatever.
