Got my boutique internship via Linkedin message. Cold emailing are also effective, shot around 70-80 emails to boutiques and around 8-10 firms replied, 4 of which willing to give me interviews.

I don't know which is better per say in terms of recruitment, but its always better to get someone on the phone as emails are easier to ignore and dismiss. This is especially true for sales.
I’d be more likely to respond to a cold email than call but that’s just my preference. Unless I’m expecting your call, pitching me over the phone is a great way to get me to tune out and hang up.
