What's the deal with everyone wanting to do modelling?

I don't really get it... Why does every prospect or intern always ask how much modelling they will learn? When I did my internship in a pretty technical product group in IBD, I didn't enjoy the modelling at all. I much more preferred the pitching, PowerPoint, Excel work element of the job...

The thinking (often passed down by upperclassmen and mentors) is that PE wants you to have good modeling skills so try to maximize modeling reps. Most kids shoot for that because they either know they want PE or don’t know (and go w the herd). Also, it’s not like the modeling is always particularly cerebral (lol), but post-internship it was fs more stimulating than some of the mundane PPT or admin work. Not to say that PPT can’t be similarly stimulating (industry / company knowledge, etc is cool)

oh okay. well, personally i don't want to go into PE, but rather become a product banker - but cool to know
