When are Salaries for Analysts Increasing?
The title pretty much says it all. I have read from previous threads that first-year analysts' base salary used to be $70k, and everyone know that nowadays it is 85k for A1, 90k for A2, and 95k for A3. When are these salaries expected to increase? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
This is specifically for NYC, and focused on BB and MM since some EB have higher base salaries for their analysts.
IMO right now you should pray that they don't decrease
Not soon. Banks don't want to commit to an even higher base when total comp is one of the highest available out of college, and there is plenty of demand for the jobs. Much easier for them to flex up on bonus than tie themselves to extra base salary which would have to be guaranteed even in down years.
Once EBs make it evident they are the top choice. Like CVP pays up to $225k for analysts, GS is still $130k. Some people still choice GS over CVP
They will continue to pay 130k. Missing out on a 1st year analyst that chose CVP over GS for pay reasons will lead to absolute 0 net effect on GS performance that quarter, that fiscal year, or in perpetuity for that matter.
We're not talking about fighting over rain making MD's. It's analysts. They crunch #'s and make slides. Literally nothing more nothing less
Do you plan on not being able to survive on 85k a year? Pretty crazy that with no experience you think inline for better compensation
This isn't the point of OP's post. $85k base was 5 years ago, so it's not unreasonable to think about an adjustment given inflation (would put you at $90-95k today).
