At what point in the hierarchy does one get a secretary normally in banking? VP level? MD?
I ask of course, because having a secretary is also part of high status and power that many of us seek.

In investment banking, I've only seen MD's with secretaries. No VP's or even executive directors...

At some BB's analysts share executive assistants with other members of the group - so the answer to your question is: as early as analyst.
Agree with the posters above. At the junior levels, it isn't uncommon to share a secretary or executive assistant (same thing). As you get more senior, the number of people who share the secretary is reduced dramatically, up to the point where some people have their own dedicated person.
I share one as an analyst however because im not fielding dozens of phone calls a day or traveling every week its not like i have much to ask her help with...
