Just wondering when should undergrads start networking? I’m an incoming freshman at a target and I’ve asked others and they said that for the first year it isn’t as important. That being said when should undergrads start networking to gain an edge for IB?

Nah even that is too late, you need to be born at a target hospital to even get a chance in IB
This is true. Also, if you want even a slight chance at PE recruiting, you need to start upon conception. 1 month in to fetal development is way too late
got a BB offer mainly because I was able to leverage my target preschool network.
Network with alumni ASAP and build some relationships over time, but you can wait for recruiting cycle before reaching out to the rest of the bank.
Just focus on making friends and joining clubs early freshmen year. Having a great social life and actually enjoying your time at college will make recruiting easier and make you seem like someone people will want to work with.
Join finance clubs first year, who will become your mentors to getting into IB.

This is super key. I became friends w a couple seniors who led lectures and investment sectors. Fast forward 1.5-2 years later, couple of them helped me and some other kids secure SA offers as they were on the OCR team and knew we were chill.
Yeah, don't start calling bankers and sounding like a dumba$$. If you want to network, call local shops and try and land a summer/fall/spring internship to boost your resume.
This is so underrated — making good friends in finance clubs who will then refer you to their analyst friends during recruiting — is much better than just cold emailing alumni.
