Where to for FT? Evercore Tech v. GS TMT (all bay area)
Hi guys, I know this is such a cliche question, but I don't think there was a similar thread before, so gotta ask you folks.
Two offers — Evercore Tech in Menlo Park or Goldman Sachs TMT in San Francisco. Both are full-time offers and there are no differences as far as numbers go.
I love tech and Silicon Valley, so both are great opps. However, Evercore's culture and exposure to senior management is very tempting.
I'm really sorry for making this such a last minute — I have slightly more than a week to decide and would really appreciate anyone's help.
You know this already - can't go wrong with either. That being said, I would lean towards GS TMT for the extensive network, branding and exit opps. Evercore is good in all of these categories too, but not at the same level as GS.
I would take GS and not look back, unless you would have a very strong support network at Evercore or there is some other underlying reason we do not know about.
Would pick GS as well - Evercore name will follow you everywhere in finance, GS name will follow you everywhere, period. Unless you have a very strong reason to go Evercore, I would also pick GS and not look back.
Goldman Sachs
doubt Evercore tech in menlo does deals. in tech, if youre not at GS / MS / Qatalyst, youre probably pitching or fighting for 'lead right' on a financing. GS no question
.
I heard GS is pretty reputable in SF
So what did you end up deciding?
GS SF certainly has better exit options to PE if that is what you are interested in doing post your analyst stint. Its a no brainer. I'd pick GS over Evercore.
I interviewed at EVR in Menlo. Seemed like they were still getting their foothold and that it was as smaller shop. They guys I talked to, albeit a small sample, didn't seem like they had their shit together either (Sorry if anyone reading works there. Like I said, just a personal experience).
GS was the opposite situation. I'd go GS.
^Conversely, thought the EVR Menlo Park group came across as the smartest group I interviewed with across a range of elite boutiques, BBs and a PE firm or two. Impressions can certainly vary :)
