Which job do I take?

Hello,

This forum has been a great resource for interview prep and advice on CV cover letters etc. so firstly, I would like to thank everyone here.

I just graduated from a semi-target school in the UK (not sure how to divide unis here but we get all major banks at our careers fair) with a 2.1 in Aeronautical Engineering. I tried my luck with getting internships and then do a MSc in Finance, but unfortunately that didn't lead me anywhere.

Fortunately, I have received three graduate job offers - one for audit at a Big 4, one for Advisory at a Big 4 and an engineering job at a major (semi-luxury) car manufacturer. I have rejected the audit offer due to lack of appeal, salary and somewhat sketchy path to IB.

I am now quite confused between the consulting offer (London) and the engineering one (not London). I will be trying to get in to graduate positions at IB for next year's intake, and I would like to hear your opinions and advice as to what would be more conducive towards my overall development and career.

Thank you.

The engineering job sounds like fun.

When a plumber from Hoboken tells you he has a good feeling about a reverse iron condor spread on the Japanese Yen, you really have no choice. If you don’t do it to him, somebody else surely will. -Eddie B.

You're an aeronautical engineer man, naturally I'd say advisory but in your case, the engineering job might be better. Put your degree to good use and do something smart. What exactly do you want to do in IB?

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for freedom of thought which they seldom use.

London based myself with some experience in big 4 advisory. It really does depend which of the big 4 it is. If you want you can drop me a PM and I can find some stuff out for you as I have friends in 2 out of 4 so could possibly find out a bit more for you. Speaking as somebody with experience in big 4 audit who is now at an elite boutique, don't do it if it's not what you have your heart set on.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the replies. It is for IT Advisory. I am interested in M&A advisory to be specific. I am not sure if I enjoyed being an engineer too much, the lack of variety and pace made it less interesting that it actually is. I want to be in a fast paced environment where I can add real value, not just be part of a team and ticking off things if that makes sense.

Yes, I have already said no to the audit offer.

Thanks.

Being a prospective monkey I am bound to post stupid comments due to my lack of expert knowledge. I implore you to correct me harshly or constructively, and I will appreciate any learning opportunity.
