Why are VPs and Directors assholes?

Is this an across the bank thing? Started at my new firm recently and went to introduce myself to the director and he completely shrugged me off. Refused to shake my hand too. As for the VP, he always is sending us passive aggressive emails for the smallest stuff and refuses to acknowledge any of the new analysts.

Would love to hear if this has happened to any one else. Cheers!

Edit: I understand there’s a hierarchy and I’m not saying we should be best buddies or anything, just wondering why I can’t even get a simple handshake.

I'm not saying it's right, but from their perspective you are meat to be exploited. Analysts are a constant revolving door with 90%+ turnover rates. If you won't be here in 2 years they just don't see the point in making a relationship with you.

This was the same at my MBB with a tiny number of exceptions/nice people.

Most people in this professional services career who are willing to push through this abusive work relationships are either slightly on the spectrum (insecure overachiever) or some sort of psychopaths.

Environment was ultra transactional. Like you were there as a ressource, there was no small-talk/chit-chat just straight to the documents and then giving you comments.

I learned to live with it and just got used to it and also wasn't trying to be nice/overly appreciative to them.
