Comp is comparable to IB in absolute terms, and probably higher in hourly terms especially at the junior level. Am I missing something?

This. You pretty much can't do anything with ECM or DCM outside of those roles at a bank. Maybe you can make the jump to IR if you're an attractive woman from ECM. DCM probably can get into in-house treasury type roles, but you're fighting levfin folks for private credit roles. You can make DCM sound like levfin to a regular person in corporate so perhaps it's slightly more marketable in that regard. ECM and DCM are making the same comp as coverage + M&A + levfin analysts at any strong MM/BB though. Corporate banking comp is WIDELY variable based on the bank.
