Why did HR tell me that I shouldn't be discussing bonuses with my coworkers?
According to The New York Times, the National Labor Relations Act states that employers can't ban the discussion of salary and working conditions among employees. This would prevent employees from organizing themselves effectively and give employers an unfair bargaining edge.
Because that's how they stay away from getting sued for shit. HR exists to protect the company, they are not your friend, never forget that. I would also stay away from quoting shit from the NLRB, that's a fast way to find yourself getting put on a PIP.
