Will I get sniped?

Hi all, currently a summer analyst at a BB and wanted to get people’s thoughts on this. I was planning on full-time rerecruiting but given how great my team is both from a culture and dealflow standpoint i decided to not go all in on networking with other EBs.

I decided to just send ONE email for the fun of it and it turns out the person I sent an email to is connected to someone on my team with decision making towards my return.

What are the chances that the person I emailed is going to tell my staffer that I’m planning on rerecruiting? I’m not even going all in and I love my team but Im afraid I wont get the return now.

Really bad move - 1)it probably looks bad that you’ve been with your current team for hardly 2 weeks and instantly know you want to lateral (flight risk). 2) There’s always a possibility that people know guys on your current team (what actually happened). All you can do now is be fully present with your current team, keep your head down and grind harder than anyone else in your class. Be competitive. You’re at a BB - thousands of kids would line up to sell a kidney for that FT seat - you need to understand that reality and then it’ll be easier for you to go all in this summer. Outside of the technicality, try to also form personal relationships with the more senior guys on your team. Be transparent with communication, get them to like you on a personal level, show them you are the hardest worker in your SA class, and this will likely rectify any “flight risk” issues that come up during FT offer decisions. #1 priority should be to get the return, especially in the market we’re in. While unethical and even more risky, it would be better to just reneg on the FT offer for an EB (if that’s a better deal for you) than to go into FT recruiting without a backup plan.

This is extremely retarded, never do this during an SA stint. You were 100% gonna be fine if you didn’t explicitly mention rerecruiting to the other shop. Obviously both your current team and the guy you reached out to know how this goes and that you’re gonna try to rerecruit somewhere else but you shouldn’t give your current team the impression that you’re so checked out that you can’t wait to get out of there. Even now you’ll probably be fine because everyone knows interns are retarded but still opening yourself up to risks. Regardless it’s already done now so just put in the best work possible.
