Will Withdrawing from a class affect my chances?
Questions: Do investment banks ask for transcripts for job applications? Will having one W on my transcript freshman year hurt my chances? How much do grades even matter?
Context: I'm considering dropping one of my classes because it's too much work, it has nothing to do with my major, and the professor only gives B/A- grades even to top students. My current GPA is a 4.0/4.0. Assuming I drop the class, it will most likely remain a 4.0 (or around a ~3.9) when I start recruiting. This class is focused on how international monetary and fiscal policies affect global markets.
Drop the class
The KPI you need to manage is GPA. The only time people figure out about "W" is when they've extended an offer and want the transcript. Manage GPA relentlessly and drop this stuff.
