Would you take over the bank?

Been working at a small boutique IB with a niche industry focus for 7 years. The Managing Partner is an OG industry stud that brings in great deals year-in and year-out. Very little marketing / pitching. He and I are close and he let me know that the shop is mine to take over if I want to. The other people more senior than me are either too old or not the right fit for the leadership role. He believes he has another ten years in him before he retires. He wants to put a plan of transition in place to get me to a place I can drive new deals and sustain the business without him.

The catch? I'm not sure I want to be a banker for the rest of my life...... Wwyd?

If you can figure out how to fill these big big shoes, yes. 100%. Otherwise it's just another firm hanging on to old creds. Sure you'll get some momentum after he leaves based on his/firm's reputation but that'll fade right quick.

If you can convince him to stay on as what the traditional banks have as "vice chair" or something along those lines, ideal solution. He does little to no work other than some relationship shit, and you execute.
