1 Year Master Student with M&A experience for Summer Analyst role

Hi, I will be starting my MSc in Fin & Acc at Imperial this September, and after graduation, I would like to get into Investment Banking Industry. I have some experience in corporate finance, had one summer internship in a small no-name M&A advisory firm which deals only with small private companies and finally an internship in PwC. I want to ask do you think will I be even considered for an Interview for the Summer Analyst role in Investment Banks in London? I will be a Masters student with an M&A internship, however not in a bank.  Thank you for your help.

Hey, not sure as English is not my first language, but I do not see any mistakes there. On the other hand, he might have edited the post already.

Well, you have to apply and find out.

If a bunch of random people here said “no, don’t bother” would you really not apply? Of course you would apply, whatever we say.

You only get one chance at recruiting. Believe in yourself and apply to all the places you like. Good luck and hope you have a good masters experience!

Hey OP,

Is the MSc in A&F 1 or 2 years? If it’s one, it may be a bit challenging given some firms have relatively strict penultimate year policies (I am assuming you are referring to the Summer of 2022 for SA recruitment given this year’s cycle has pretty much come to an end). If it’s 2, go for it. Even if it’s 1 year, do give it a try, especially with firms that are a bit more flexible. But if your degree is a 1 year program, I would focus on FT recruiting if I were you or, if possible, go for Off-Cycles.

Hope this helps!

Could you elaborate on that, please? I would be interested as well. I thought that the recruiting process for this year is already over??

I don't think this is impossible and would expect MMs to bite, at least. Imperial's Business School is still a target - albeit less strong than the College - and you at least have a recognisable brand in PwC. If you cover applications comprehensively I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least one or two interviews at BBs

How strong is your undergraduate profile, work experience aside? GPA/Degree Class? Any scholarships? Any interesting ECs? Your challenge is going to be differentiating yourself from everyone else doing an MSc at Imperial/LSE/LBS/Oxford/Cambridge who haven't, thus far, found their dream SA role but probably have some work experience. You need something on your resume that makes screeners go "oh, that's interesting."
