22M Recent College Grad and Credit Analyst for The Past Six Months - Where to Next?

Hello all, I hope all is well.

I am a somewhat recent graduate from a non-target Big Ten school and have begun considering the next move in my career.

I have been working as a credit analyst since last August for a community bank in the Northeast and have mixed feelings about the job. I've learned a lot about financial analysis in a pretty short time and have made great strides in developing an effective workflow, however the loans I underwrite are very small and simple due to the small nature of the bank (largest facility I have underwritten is only around $5MM), which I believe may be stunting my skill development long-term.

I felt I had to "settle" for the job I took when I graduated due to the poor job market despite my record in college. I had a 4.0, three internships at much larger regional banks ($40-$80B in assets), but graduated without a job and took the first job that wasn't sales or operations after I kept striking out for months. The pay was particularly disappointing, as I'm only making ~$62,000, which is below my schools median salary of $70,000 for graduating finance majors and low enough that I'm forced to live with my parents.

I certainly don't feel like I've "wasted my time" working for this bank or anything dramatic like that, but I feel I should start looking for something that will better set me up for the future. The bank doesn't really offer much opportunity for advancement (promotions are extremely rare and very nepotistic, even by finance standards) and isn't paying me enough to live on my own, which is a major sticking point for me.

My long-term goal is to transition to something more client-facing if I don't go into corporate finance, however I don't really have much direction there. The only real industry specific interest I have is to work on the finance side for a cruise line, however those jobs aren't very numerous.

I'm curious at what people with more experience think I should do from here. I know I want to move onto to something that will set me up better for the future, but I'm not quite sure where to go from here and how to set myself up to do so. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
