9-12 month internships in NY

I should have a 1 year graduate Visa which allows me to work as a paid intern for the year in a couple of weeks.
My ideal job would be in Sales and Trading. I would also love anything in management consulting. (I know they are completely different) Unlike a lot of others on this site I don't really want to go down the Finance/IBD path but will probably apply for such positions anyway.

I plan to live in New York from the start of June and I can work for 12 months starting 15th June.

I don't have any brand name internships under my belt but worked in the office of a gambling industry firm for over a year during college.

Does anyone know of any relevant firms which hire for periods of 9-12 months or do off cycle internships? I know firms have intern cycles which are scheduled in advance and only last for 3 months and open to undergrads so would like to know of any other programs that might be out there.

I could work in an entry level job. What firm would want someone restricted to a 12 month Visa though is an issue

Cheers for any advice!

Im guessing this will be pretty tough. Literally every structured program finance application form has a section on it about applying to US offices, with some only open to citizens and full time residents.

I'd start by looking at university job boards. International students work during the summer so there might be some employers there who'll accept a J1 visa.

Small firms who don't run structured intern programs might be interested talking if you phoned them. Its getting pretty late for hiring summer interns though.

Yeah looking at university job boards is a good idea actually as those employers would definitely be more open to interviewing someone in my position.

I know it's late for summer internships but I am trying to stay away from those anyway as I need a longer term position, preferably for the entire 12 months. I still would do a summer internship though while I look for something for the remaining 9 months for financial and work experience reasons.

I am familiar with the London undergraduate scene and so I understand that what I am doing is an uphill climb.

I am only finishing a three year course in Economics and Finance so I am far from an expert. I have solid enough academic results though. Others from my degree are doing very well on the employment side of things so hopefully that as a benchmark means I will get something!

SocGen used to have long-term internships posted on my school's career portal that paid $22 or $26 hourly. Most were either MO or BO supporting a trading desk, but there were some Sales Assistant roles too, usually requiring foreign language fluency. I have no idea whether they still post.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
