A junior (3rd year) in college pursuing a non-business degree attempting to break into investment banking (CS)
Hi, I am looking for some advice on my situation. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Background: I have recently transferred to the University of Texas at Austin as a Computer Science student from a no name university. After thinking this over for a couple of months, I have come to the conclusion that I want to break into investment banking. The problem with this is that I am entering my junior year, so I know I am very late in the game (but in CS classes I am still a freshman, due to transfer credit issues). I have a full scholarship so I am not worried about staying longer than 4 years in undergraduate.
Should I attempt an internal transfer to Mccombs? - I have a 4.0 GPA and almost all the prerequisites completed. I can take them all before application time so there is a slight chance of getting in - I do have 62 credit hours, so I will not receive priority over people with fewer credit hours
Should I attempt to break into investment banking with no business degree? - I know CS is still respected (UT is ranked 6th in the country), but will I be at a severe disadvantage? - I self-teach a lot, so book suggestions are HIGHLY appreciated. - If any alumni (or people just familiar with UT) are here, any organizations I should join at UT?
*Any great guides, books, or subjects I should familiarize myself before I start cold calling would be MUCH APPRECIATED! *Other advice still pertaining to my post, but not necessarily my questions are welcomed too.
