Accepted BB IB SA offer but want to graduate a year later than expected
I have recently accepted a penultimate year 2023 SA offer for a BB in NY. However, due to personal reasons, I want to postpone graduate until 2025. How do I approach the bank with this news. Will the offer be immediately revoked and I will be blacklisted? Could I just not say anything and re-recruit in the spring, and make this a “sophomore” internship? Looking for any insight or past stories anyone may have on the matter.

Assuming that you have really thought about this and are committed to your new timeline, I would suggest you do a couple of things:
1) have a resume up to date with your current state (this is the one you send to HR at the beginning of your internship for circulation).
2) create a second resume with the new expected grad date (2025). You should put “incoming summer analyst” on this resume but don’t play up the sophomore thing. It’ll be implied by your expected grad date. You recruit for 2024 with this…you will get more bites because you already have an internship.
3) remove date ranges to your LinkedIn education section.
4) should you get a summer 2024 internship locked in by next Spring, don’t post about it or tell many people.
5) stay the course and gain the experience of your 2023 internship…it doesn’t serve you to tell anyone that you can’t accept an offer at the end of the summer. Learn, do well, enjoy and then decline an offer (should you get one).
Good luck. You’re in a great position.
LOL this is some shit I would do
but you "don't know" you want to delay your grad until after your internship. once you tell the company that (if you even tell them before leaving), there are 2 things that could happen: 1) they give you another summer, 2) you were going to be on track to graduate with that company but you decided you didn't like the company/things came up u couldn't prevent so you re-recruited
it's no big deal ppl do this all the time
Would you guys seriously recommend that I do this? I’m honestly not sure what to do.
Bump. More opinions?
You *want* to postpone graduation until 2025. That means you haven't made a decision. Don't make a decision until after you've completed your SA internship. It's not your responsibility to tell a prospective employer about any opportunity or thought that passes through your mind.
End of the day, do what's best for you within reason. It's best for you to take this SA opportunity. Don't tell anyone that you're thinking about this either. If you get an offer and you think you have a valid reason, just tell them you've decided to continue your education. Give them as much or as little information as you'd like. Let them know you'd like to come back for another SA internship if that interests you. If you've done well, that likely won't be a problem.
For what it's worth, I'm not in college, I'm a mid-career working professional.
