Acquisitions Role at Small REPE Shop - Junior Internship

Hi,

I recently received an offer for a internship from a small value-add REPE shop based in the Washington DC area. I am a current junior, so there is a big chance I go back full time if they offer me a return letter.

This sounds like a perfect role in everyway, but my only concern is that since they only deal with properties in the greater DC area, I would pigeonhole myself from moving into a bigger PE shop that deals with multiple markets across the nation instead of just the DC area.

I was wondering what exits there are from a smaller PE shop like this? Is this worse than being at a top name brokerage company? It seems like big brokers who switch into PE may end up at a shop similar to this, but I am unsure. I want to know my exit options relative to if I ended up at a bank or a big name company in the RE industry.
