advice needed for how to land a job in finance industry.

Hello, guys

Need some serious help here. I have a master degree in finance from a non-target school, no MBA, and have been working as a market analyst for past two years in a high-tech company. However, want to shift to financial industry, start from financial analyst. But given my background, what chance do you think I have to land a financial analyst job? right now I am preparing for CFA II and taking financial modeling class from breaking into wallstreet.

Any advice/suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks!

Given that you have a masters degree in Finance, I think you have a shot. In my opinion you should focus on networking - take advantage of Linkedin - find people with similar interests/backgrounds. Try to schedule informational interviews/phone calls/coffee etc. Cold e-mail/call till your fingers are numb. While your situation is a bit different from my own experience, I am still comfortable in telling you that it really works. You will see that in no time your network will grow quite large and then hopefully you can leverage it into an interview.

My only worry is that you have been out of UG for 2 years now - I imagine it will be tough for you to lateral and that you may have to start from an entry level position. You should strongly consider an MBA - as people say it is great for career changers and networking opportunities!

Good Luck
