Am I completely screwed? Any way to get a job in Finance with no relevant experience?
Thank you so much to anyone taking the time to read and respond to this. I graduated last year from a very middle of nowhere state school with a degree in finance and unfortunately realized fall of senior year that I was interested in private equity instead of a law career. I interviewed at an asset management firm before the position was entirely pulled due to COVID. I finally got a job in the fall in recruiting (which I completely hate) and have been trying to figure out how to get onto wall street for over a year now. I have no relevant connections and feel entirely screwed out of my dream career at the ripe age of 23. I realize that a MBA from a top program may be my best bet at this point but again, I feel as though my current work experience will hold me back there. If you were in my position what would you do? I'm trying to look for positions even semi related to banking at middle of nowhere firms but my resume at this point does nothing to even point to an interest in that. If you were in my shoes what would you recommend I do? Are there any specific jobs/firms/regions that I should look into to try to break in? Any and all advice is helpful here.
You might need to apply to a lot of places to land you a better spot pre-MBA where you exhibit leadership qualities and excellence.
