Am I late for summer 25 recruiting

I have struggled to get anything in office and 5 days a week for this summer and the past one but still have picked up research gigs and little work part time with different companies. Ive also tried out modeling courses and an externship this summer to try my best to build experience though I feel I was a bit lazy during the process as next summer will be the big post junior year internship year. I was wondering what fields or industries might still be worth networking at this point (August 2024) as most IB and PE recruiting I've looked into are probably locking in most of their analysts for next summer. Is there any way I can still have a decent shot of anything for next summer or am I simply too late?

Based on previous WSO threads, here's what you need to know:

  1. Timing and Recruitment Cycles:

    • Many banks and firms have indeed moved their recruiting timelines earlier, often locking in candidates well in advance. However, this doesn't mean all hope is lost.
  2. Networking:

    • Networking remains a crucial strategy. Reaching out to alumni, attending industry events, and leveraging LinkedIn can open doors that might not be visible through traditional application processes.
    • Focus on smaller banks, boutiques, and regional firms. These institutions often have more flexible recruiting timelines and may still be looking for candidates.
  3. Alternative Paths:

    • Consider roles in asset management, corporate finance, or even smaller private equity firms. These roles can provide valuable experience and can be a stepping stone to larger firms later on.
    • Internships at local boutiques or smaller firms can still provide significant learning opportunities and can be leveraged for full-time recruiting later.
  4. Skill Building:

    • Continue to build your skills through modeling courses, externships, and any relevant part-time work. This will not only enhance your resume but also prepare you for interviews.
    • Consider enrolling in a one-year MSF program at a target school if you find it challenging to secure a position. Programs at schools like Georgetown and Vanderbilt are well-regarded and can provide another recruiting cycle.
  5. Persistence:

    • The job recruiting process is ongoing. Even if you don't secure a summer internship immediately, there are multiple paths to reach your goal. Keep applying, networking, and building your skills.

In summary, while the main recruiting season for IB and PE might be wrapping up, there are still opportunities available if you focus on networking, consider alternative paths, and continue building your skills.
