Amazon Sr. Program Manager vs. PwC Strategy& Deals SA
M7 2022 grad with 7 years experience in nonprofit. Have 2 offers that are really different and need advice. I'd use either opportunity to be a sponge and learn as much as I can, exiting to internal strategy or product management roles at a FAANG in 2-3 years and aiming to hit Manager level role in 3-5 years. Want to become C-Suite or even launch my own thing down the line.
Help me decide or weigh in on the companies/roles/how you recommend I approach this decision. What would you think about if you were in my shoes? Any thoughts on the offers/how to negotiate? I come from the nonprofit world so this is all extremely new.
Amazon-- Sr. Program Manager
- TC: $198k ($146k base, Y1 Sign on: $47k Y2 Sign on: 36k, $113k RSUs over 4 years)
- Heard bad things about Amazon (PIP culture) but also good things from my network of people that work there
- Culture doesn't have mentorship and pretty autonomous work
- Hours can be long, toxic management depending on team
- It's a stepping stone into the Tech industry and I'd have ownership over processes/proposals/my programs
- Not a lot of upward mobility but lots of lateral opportunity. Potential to transition to new teams or even Sr. Product Manager or other roles
- I'd learn a lot and have many doors open-- especially starting at a FAANG if I want to end up in tech anyway
Strategy& Deals-- Sr. Associate
- TC: $205k ($175k base, Sign on: $30k, Performance Bonus: ???)
- Heard bad/toxic things about Strategy& and don't know anyone currently or formerly worked there
- Culture doesn't have mentorship, steep learning curve given my background. Would spend next 6 months prepping for the job/taking more M&A classes.
- Hours for Deals team can be long/evening and weekends (80+ hours/week?)
- It's a stepping stone to internal strategy/corp dev/corp strategy roles. I'd understand how markets and competitive advantages play out (extremely useful if I aspire to be C-Suite or an entrepreneur)
- Would get to manage Analysts/mentor (helpful if I want to become a manager eventually)
- Clear promotion process and timelines
- I'd learn a lot and have many doors open-- especially if I want to do strategy roles in tech anyway
Super grateful for your perspectives and thanks for your help!
Honestly, it sounds like you already know what you want to do.
Really? Maybe my emotions are clouding things because I feel torn.
what the commenter said below me applies, but with the obvious caveats: there's no guarantee you get corp dev/strat for a tech firm. if you're more interested in product management vs M&A consulting, then i think you have an answer. can always go the other way too (Amazon to PwC)
