Asking about the Interview Format + Length

Is it inappropriate to ask HR or the interviewer prior to the interview about the interview format (i.e. if there will be an excel test, technicals, etc.)?

Also, is it inappropriate to ask for the length of an interview prior to the interview?

Don't ask and prepare for anything is the approach I take. As far as length, I feel like that's something they normally tell you so you can plan your day accordingly. If they didn't, I'd assume half hour for a phone call or an hour for in-person (unless it's a superday of course).

I always ask HR. It is perfectly acceptable to do so. Just ask what the interview format will be and how long you should expect it to be

I would ask HR or the head hunter about the structure of the process before the first round. They should elaborate on modelling tests, which rounds focus on technicals or personality.
