AWM MO to ?

I'm currently an 3rd year Associate in a PB middle office role at a BB. I've been exploring what could be next career wise - for anyone who has been in this sort of a role previously, what did you move into and what drew you to/helped you transition into your current role?

My current role is in performance analysis and we work quite closely with FO in a support capacity. I've been interested in FO and a number of past team members have been able to transition into FO roles from my team, usually coming in as an investment specialist supporting the bankers. This feels like an obvious choice if I can manage it for career trajectory and there doesn't feel like there are a ton of other short to medium term options for someone with my background within the AWM space. I'm comfortable and on track for VP within the next year but I'm wary of continuing on my current track for too much longer and getting pigeonholed.
