Background check help! Urgent
Accepted an offer to join a top pe firm but noticed on my resume that one of the dates for an internship I did at a boutique IB during sophomore fall was off by one month.
I was told over the phone that I would be working August to December but due to final exams that semester I paused earlier and did work from August to November. On my resume I left it as December and my employer at the boutique has documents that I signed when I left the firm in Nov.
Knowing that background checks verify the dates of employment for entry level, is there anything I should clear up with my firm? Please help I’m super paranoid

Can’t imagine your firm rescinding on this. I would reach and say something similar to what you did here and you’ll be fine. Would be different if you put the experience on there and never worked there or something like that, but this seems minute
Nobody will care at all. On the off chance that they run a detailed background check they might find and flag the discrepancy to you, at which point you just let them know what the correct number is. Will not be an issue at all whatsoever.

Typically companies do not use your resume for a background check. They use a pre-employment application. Be as honest as possible when filling out the application. A month is not a big deal. People sometimes forget when exactly they started their job. Being 3 months off is a problem. I hope this helps.

No, your resume is not a legal document. Also resumes only list jobs that are relevant to the positions. A pre-employment application, you have to list every job including low wage jobs. They are just trying to check that you are who you say you are. Finance companies do not even check references. References are not an efficient assessment. Most companies are not allowed to give references. Just dates, and times you work there. Be honest about you title in the pre-employment screen. Companies are also not allowed to check salaries. It's really not a big deal, it was an internship and you were off by a few days, not the end of the world. Maybe a little sloppy on the review part (not ideal) but just say you stopped around Thanksgiving and you were off by a day or two.
If the place cares, you were going to the wrong place.
It might get flagged by the 3rd party company. If it gets flagged, HR might shoot you an email to clear it up or choose to completely ignore it. The latter is the likely occurrence. Being off by a month is not material enough to take further actions. It could be considered a rounding error if you will.

It wouldn’t hurt. Same thing happened to me in my analyst years and I contacted HR immediately. It was never brought up again.
