Bad career choice - what should I do now?

I'm a compliance analyst at a major bank and I have been in the role for 5-6months rotating into different teams and I haven't enjoyed a single one of them. I have the opportunity to work in FO for 3 months and I am planning on taking it. I will be in coverage banking, an actual area of interest. My plan is to ace it and apply for a full time position in the team once the graduate analyst year is over (FO team). Do you think this is a feasible plan? I really want to be part of the decision making process, work in private equity and so on. I can't believe I cocked up this but I am keen to fix up! Any advice?

Work your ass off and make connections with the coverage banking team outside work (without forcing it). Show them you are willing to learn, you can perform, and you can be trusted with work (especially beyond your position). If you have access to senior people on the team I would try to make it clear to them that your goal is to apply later.

Honestly, if you do a good job and they see something in you (performance- and fit-wise) they will probably be more than happy to have you back in the team.

Hey, thanks for the motivating words! So I got myself on a big committee within the bank (networking SORTED!!!!!!!), spoke with internal mobility/hr and they are super keen to get me into FO. I have another meeting with them in the new year and they are circulating my CV for summer time positions etc.

In the mean time I just need to ACE my placements for a good rep. My first team was awful, made me doubt myself. But I am keen to ace this!
