Bank of America - Terrible Interactions?
For some reason, every interaction I've had with BofA employees in IB has been negative. I'm very interested in LevFin, and know they're a top shop. Was wondering if others had similar experiences? The people are either very monotone and boring, or they seem like they hate their job. Actually had one guy in IB at the firm hint to me to look into other career paths. Haven't had anything quite like this with people at other firms. Is this just a coincidence or is BofA/BAML a miserable place to work or something?
Funny cause the nicest bankers I've met all are at BofA. Couple of them were willing to meet me in person at the office when I was networking for internship. BofA bankers organized networking meet & greets before one of my friend's placement day. Think you've just gotten unlucky
Banks are huge dude, don't fall for the culture meme. The wet dream of the bulge bracket is to have everyone be a copy and paste drone of themselves while preaching individuality in a cosmic irony of shitpost tier. You probably just spoke to some bad apples, because even speaking to 10 people and having them consistently be shitty, especially in a bank with hundreds or even thousands of IB employees, can still make them bad apples. There is no universal culture nor overall mana at a bank, people are just people, the generic HUR DUR INCLUSION BIG FAMILY ENTREPRENEUR garbage they spew is just that, garbage, and it comes with the territory. I have enjoyed every BAML interaction I've had and my current bank is filled with genuinely nice people. It just varies per person.
Think it's just a coincidence, but personally the NYC employees I've interacted with were just like you described while the west coast people were nice and super chill for the most part.
Ngl every single person I’ve met from the firm is extremely nice and personable. People have bad days maybe
This is the experience I have had as well. Vast majority were great, but there were one or two bad apples.
I wouldn’t paint the whole bank with one brush. that being said it might be nice to meet more people and understand the team culture and dynamics. There might be some teams that have an over demanding MD or a VP who gives comments and asks for quick turns over the weekend despite the work not being due till Thursday. But if 2-3 people from the same team hint at a bad culture I’d be careful.
I interviewed at 4 different BBs and my BofA interviewers were by far the friendliest. Big reason I ended up accepting their offer. That said, everyone has bad days, and every firm has bad apples.
