BB IBD to MBB
Hey everyone, wanted to try my luck over here to see if anyone has made the switch from analyst/associate at bulge bracket to MBB consulting - it is something that I've been considering and wanted see if there are any kind souls out there that are willing to let me pick their brains. I understand that doing a MBA is likely a common way this was done but would be very grateful if someone could share their experience and rationale behind such a switch. Thanks!
I’m at a big office (New York, Chicago, Boston, SF) of a T2 (Kearney, OW, LEK), and there’s a solid number of former BB analysts. I know nothing about the logistics required, but it definitely is possible to switch over to a top strategy firm.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond.
Based on what you observe, are they generalist (like the rest of the guys maybe?) or do their projects tend to be in the sector they had experience in from their time in the BB?
At my target school, anecdotally, lots of people tried to make the switch but very, very few were successful. It's doable and you should be able to get interviews at some strategy firms (after which it's upto you.) Simultaneously, though, anecdotally, I know a few GS/JPM/MS people who didn't get interviews at all MBB - so by no means is it straightforward.
