Being extroverted + networking + maintaining relationships

Recently attended this networking event and at times I felt kind of intimidated when talking to seniors and other personalities who appear very well spoken and articulated.

Sometimes I feel I don’t know what to say or run out of questions if that makes sense Does anyone have any advice etc in regards to this.As in always having something to say…

Also with maintaining relationships , you can have catchups etc with your mentor but I feel as if there’s only so much you can say?

Position yourself to ask questions that lead to things outside of business and not like “how can you help me”. Find out what people like, common interests, personal things and then you can do little stuff like sending articles or talking sports. Keep up with their kids their gf all that bs BUT be genuine.

Especially for you it’s less about what YOU have to say but how you make them feel. Those questions you ask will allow you to naturally have more to talk about on your end.

My 2 mentors and I rarley spoke about work stuff or about how they could help me get a job years ago. At this point one of them would love for me to work with him but I prefer to us to be friends.

Idk man if all else fails just treat it like a girl you’re trying to date.

Gotta start somewhere man, very few people were born naturally well spoken and articulated. I would recommend going to as much networking events and doing as much networking calls as possible, practice is the only way you will get past this illogical insecurity.

If you still feel insecure about starting a conversation in a professional setting, start being more proactive in talking to random people in random scenarios, remember these interactions most likely won’t have any impact in your life.

Finally, there is so much small talk you can say before conversations actually get to something concrete.
