Being forward and direct at the end of an interview?
One piece of advice that I have been getting, is to show how much I want the job
Would it be acceptable or too direct to state at the end of the interview basically "This is a great (or greatest) opportunity that has presented itself to me. I hope that you will allow me to have a chance to show my ability and my great work ethic. I know that given the chance, I will exceed all expectations. This is my top choice and I would be willing to do anything to have this position and for the chance to prove myself."
I am in the position of coming from a non-target and interviewing with a very respected firm and wanted to know if this would be allowable.
I will be interviewing with an associate and 3 analysts , 1 on 1
Thank You
That sounds unnatural. You should be proving all of the qualities that you boast in that speech throughout your interview via examples and what not instead of stating them outright. By the end of the interview, an opinion of you is pretty much formed and this is redundant and robotic.
Don't come off as abrasive and you should be fine
Thank you for your input, I would restate it basically as a conclusion and will definitely have examples. And the approach would be as respective as possible. Something along the lines of "Everyone has told me to express how much I want this job, and if you don't mind myself being forward.....etc"
This is the approach you want to take. Imagine yourself in the interviewer POV: would you want to hire the kid who was lucky to get this interview and sounds incredibly desperate (you told them that this is the best opportunity you have), or would you want the kid who is confident in his abilities, desires a job in the area (not just at a particular firm) and is confident that he can, because of his demonstrated skill and desirability, obtain a position at another great firm if need be.
If you are trying to hook up with a girl, and she opens the door a little bit, do you tell her how she is the most hottest and greatest girl you ever had the opportunity to be with and your prepared to "do anything" to have a moment with her? Or do you act confident, show interest, but act like you have a great number of girls to choose from because your a great guy.
BTW I just realized, when you said that you are thinking of saying "All my friends have told me that I should express how much I desire to work for this firm" it totally reminded me of being in 5th grade and everyone tells you that you should "let your crush know how much you like them". There is definitely a parallel here.
